Solutions for perforated ear drums

"In the past year, there have been several new devices that can be used to keep the ears dry and allow a person with a perforated eardrum to dive.

One of the solutions is a mask that incorporates water tight ear covers. The covers must be connected to the mask to equalize pressure inside the covers, and they must seal around the ears to prevent any water from getting into the ear canal. A new mask, the Proear 2000, fits this need. We have had a chance to test the mask, and find it workable, but in need of attention during donning to be sure the fit is correct. Another diver is best used to help get the ear covers positioned correctly, and remove hair from under the seal. Divers with long hair may need to have the hair trimmed from around the ears to get a good seal."
